Values, Assumptions, Beliefs and Expectations
By being able to think critically and reflect we are able to learn, incorporate and understand more of our experiences and realize how they shape our ‘VABEs’ (values, assumptions, beliefs, and expectations). Without any reflection or critical thinking, then the only level of human activity occurring is the observable behavior which is a shallow understanding of oneself and others and would inevitably lead to a leader’s downfall.
How it Affects Leadership
Recognizing when one’s own VABEs are weak or strong through reflection is a key factor in growth, both as an individual and a leader as it demonstrates that you are able to realize what needs improvement and in turn it helps you to realize what other people’s VABEs are and creates a stronger connection along with stronger leadership.
Reflection and critical thinking is what pushes our boundaries and helps mold ourselves into becoming a better leader.
